How Product Drops Keep D2C Brands Profitable
By

For decades, fashion followed a wholesale model, with brands serving as the creative houses and the retailers holding most of the power in the customer relationship, marketing and selling products and collecting data on consumer preferences.

As customer loyalty to individual brands plummets, though, companies’ focus has shifted to trying to be “the next Supreme,” said Matt Falcinelli, CEO of TheDrop.com, a marketplace platform that aggregates and curates streetwear for millennials and Generation Z.

“The consumer is a multibrand consumer, they’re shopping different brands, they want different brands, they want to match different brands,” Falcinelli said in an interview with PYMNTS’ Karen Webster. “But the brands want to be direct to consumer. They want to be mono brands, and the consumer is multibrand, and this is a huge issue in a $200 billion market.”

TheDrop, he said, can help bridge this divide, providing direct-to-consumer (D2C) margins for the

The avant-garde fashion fans making resale more than shopping

Almost two years on, it’s clear that the pandemic ushered in a seismic shift in how we interact with fashion. Since the implementation of lockdowns worldwide, internet shopping has become the most prevalent way that we buy our clothes. In particular, buying and selling pre-loved luxury pieces has become the side hustle du jour. Depops popped and Instagram shops opened their digital doors to a whole new market of youths desperate for a bargain piece of fashion’s past.

In particular, this desire has been driven by the proliferation of ‘archival’ fashion Instagram accounts. Moodboards with runway images of obscure brands from the 1990s screenshotted from Tumblr, or Comme des Garçons campaign imagery nicked from Pinterest, have become one of the most common ways we interact with fashion imagery. And to accompany this growing interest, some savvy people have worked out that you can capitalise on this particular trend.

Local shops hoping to residents support Small Business Saturday
By

Emily Johnson said she doesn’t know what to expect for Small Business Saturday, but with a 2-month-old clothing boutique in downtown Las Vegas, she heard it’s been called “Santa Saturday.”

“This being our first Small Business Saturday, we talked to other business owners in the area,” said Johnson, owner of For the Love, LV. “They all say that it’s a wonderful day.”

Excitement is high among local businesses this holiday shopping season as many look to recover from a tumultuous year marked by temporary forced shutdowns, capacity restrictions and even watching friends — fellow entrepreneurs — have to shutter their businesses.

Jamie Schwartz, director of industry and business engagement at UNLV’s Office of Economic Development, said she also anticipates a strong turnout at Small Business Saturday, noting that the pandemic changed how many consumers viewed small businesses.

“We saw local businesses
having to shut down, not able to
do business,

Some say politics and style don’t mix but for Chiuri, her dedication to amplifying girls’s voices and addressing the inequalities girls face each day hasn’t wavered. Dior’s fall 2020 runway present held at Paris Trend Week earlier right now confirmed that.

Fears of supply chain woes causing long wait times for shipping could cause more people to seek an old-fashioned shopping experience in local downtowns this Black Friday.

According to Forbes, the top two trends for Black Friday 2021 are in-store shopping and shopping local

“Given the choice between a mass-produced item or a local product, customers will increasingly buy local. American-made products will also see more sales in 2021,” said the Forbes article.

Denville, for example, will close its downtown for a “Holiday Shopping Open House on Ice” event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. It will include an outside holiday bar serving “hot toddies” and more.

“I’m calling it the Snowball Lounge,”  Ellen Sandman, executive director of the Downtown Denville Business Improvement District, told the Daily Record. “There’ll be libations, and they’ll be S’mores and hot chocolate for the kids.”

Denville isn’t the only downtown where people can stock
