N.J. plastic bag ban 2022: Where to buy reusable shopping bags online

The New Jersey plastic bag ban is quickly approaching on May 4.

It’s time to buy reusable shopping bags as the state begins to phase out lightweight plastic and paper bags from large grocery stores.

While many New Jerseyans might want to stock up on plastic bags for shopping and other uses, including lining trash bins and discarding pet waste, experts and officials say there’s no need.

“Consider using paper, biodegradable, compostable, plant-based bags, or just fewer bags by using washable garbage receptacles,” Sandra Suarez, biology professor at Ramapo College and director of the school’s Upward Bound Math Science program, told NJ Advance Media.

Adhering to the restrictions on plastic bags will be easier than expected.

Several retailers, like Walmart and Amazon, have environmentally friendly options in different styles and sizes.

Here are seven places you can shop online for eco-friendly reusable bags in preparation for the plastic ban.

  1. Kohl’s stocks reusable bags from different brands and in various sizes, including sports-themed ones.
  2. Walmart offers store-brand reusable shopping bags, as well as from other brands and companies.
  3. Amazon has bulk listings for shopping totes that come with different designs and sizes.
